The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria for a single four-year term.

The decision was reached during the party’s National Convention after delegates approved a motion presented by Afam Victor Ogene, the lawmaker representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency of Anambra State in the House of Representatives.

According to the resolution adopted at the convention, the presidency will automatically return to Northern Nigeria after the completion of the four-year southern tenure.

The development now clears the path for former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and other southern aspirants to obtain the party’s presidential nomination form ahead of the primaries.

Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso recently joined the NDC after leaving their former political platforms.

Political observers expect Obi and Kwankwaso to play major roles in the party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
