Nasiru Idris Urges Ahmad Isa to Drop Defamation Case Against Maryam Adam
Northern social commentator Nasiru Idris has urged Dr. Ahmad Isa, popularly known as the Ordinary President of Brekete Family, to withdraw the criminal defamation case he filed against Kaduna resident Maryam Adam, warning that pursuing the matter could damage his reputation across Northern Nigeria.
In a viral video reacting to the controversy, Idris said taking legal action against the young woman would become Isa’s “greatest regret,” arguing that she should have been corrected privately rather than taken to court.
According to Idris, Isa could have invited Maryam to his office, reprimanded her for insulting him, and forgiven her, a move he believes would have earned him even greater respect among Northerners.
Idris also reminded Isa that he himself had previously made controversial remarks about Northern elders but was eventually forgiven because many people believed he was speaking out in the interest of the region.
He further recalled publicly defending Isa during his dispute with the BBC, saying he produced numerous videos demanding answers about Isa’s whereabouts despite receiving threats for doing so.
The commentator said he was among those who encouraged Maryam to apologize and noted that she has repeatedly admitted wrongdoing and appealed for forgiveness.
He questioned why Isa, who often encourages reconciliation on his radio programme, would refuse to forgive someone who has publicly expressed remorse.
In a second video, Idris made another emotional appeal, urging Isa to show compassion and reconsider the legal action, arguing that forgiveness would better reflect the values he has long promoted.
The controversy follows a tearful public apology by Maryam Adam, who admitted that insulting the Brekete Family founder was a mistake.
She explained that she reacted after watching a shortened video clip of Isa commenting on the Mararaba Jos lynching involving Malama Ummulkhairi, saying she became angry because she has family members living in the area.
Maryam acknowledged calling Isa offensive names in her response video and pleaded for forgiveness, asking him not to allow the incident to affect his humanitarian work.
Court documents show that Dr. Ahmad Isa, through his lawyer Fatima Umar Bala of Darayn Attorneys, filed a criminal defamation case against Maryam at the Chief Magistrate Court, Kabala Doki, Kaduna, under Case No. KMD/97CU/26.
The court has directed Maryam Adam to appear in person on August 3, 2026.
Idris concluded by suggesting that instead of pursuing the case, Isa should organize a reconciliation programme at his studio, publicly forgive Maryam, and use the incident as an opportunity to promote peace and unity.
