Crisis Rocks Benue ADC Over Primaries as Protests and Tensions Escalate

A major crisis has reportedly broken out within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benue State following protests, allegations, and growing tension surrounding the party’s primary election process.

Tension increased in parts of Benue South after angry youths were said to have stormed the office of Samson Okwu, accusing him of allegedly aligning with Tiv political interests to block the Idoma bloc from securing the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.

The protesters reportedly carried placards and chanted slogans, insisting that Benue South and the Idoma people deserve a fair chance to produce the party’s governorship candidate.

As the controversy deepens, ADC National Chairman David Mark has not publicly responded to the situation, a silence that some party members say has raised further concerns.

The crisis intensified after reports claimed the local chairman of the ADC in Okpokwu Local Government Area was allegedly abducted by unidentified individuals.

Following the incident, armed police officers were reportedly deployed to the party secretariat in Okpoga to maintain order amid rising fear among supporters and residents.

In a separate development, Ejembi Adaje called for the cancellation of the party’s primary election in Enone, alleging irregularities and arguing that the process did not reflect the wishes of genuine party members.

The claims surrounding the protests, alleged abduction, and election process remain part of an evolving political situation in the state.
