Babachir Lawal Quits ADC After Atiku Emerges Presidential Candidate
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate.
Lawal said his decision was influenced by Atiku’s victory in the party’s presidential primary, which he claimed was predetermined in the former vice president’s favour.
According to him, he does not want to be associated with what he described as a process designed to secure Atiku’s nomination ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The former SGF also stated that, in his view, President Bola Tinubu is a better option than Atiku Abubakar.
Lawal further criticised Atiku’s leadership qualities, describing him as unfit for the presidency and arguing that he should not be allowed to occupy the nation’s highest office.
His resignation adds to the growing political debate surrounding the 2027 election and the contest for Nigeria’s presidency.
