Nigerian Soldier Warns Troops Against Taking Items From Bodies of Terrorists

A Nigerian soldier serving on the frontline against Boko Haram, ThankGod Okafocha, has issued a strong warning to young soldiers and other security personnel, urging them never to take personal belongings from the bodies of neutralized terrorists, bandits, or criminals.

In a viral battlefield video, Okafocha said he works closely with young soldiers and does not want to see more of them lose their lives. He described his advice as a personal rule he has followed throughout his military career.

According to him, his father gave him the advice about 14 years ago when he returned home during his first pass after joining the military.

Okafocha advised troops not to take items such as phones, wristwatches, or other belongings from the bodies of dead criminals.

He said recovered weapons should instead be moved aside and handed over to the appropriate authorities for proper handling.

The soldier explained that he believes taking personal belongings from the dead can bring misfortune, although he acknowledged that his belief is not based on any form of traditional charm or “juju.”

He also shared his own experiences on the battlefield, displaying scars from injuries he said he sustained during combat, including wounds from gunfire.

Okafocha urged soldiers, police officers, NSCDC personnel, and other security operatives to prioritize their lives and avoid taking anything from the bodies of deceased criminals.

“Don’t take anything! I don’t want young soldiers to die again,” he said, emphasizing that nothing is more valuable than their lives.

He concluded by wishing all security personnel well and praying for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
