Goje Loses APC Ticket as DCP Ahmed Wins Gombe Central Primary

Former Gombe State governor and senator, Muhammad Danjuma Goje, has failed in his attempt to secure a fifth term after retired DCP Mohammed Ahmed won the All Progressive Congress, APC ticket for Gombe Central Senatorial District. Returning Officer Dr. Habu Dahiru announced that Ahmed scored 42,785 votes, defeating Goje who polled 10,425 votes during Saturday’s direct primary held across Akko and Yamaltu/Deba LGAs.

Ahmed, who was reportedly backed by Governor Inuwa Yahaya, described the outcome as proof of growing support for change. According to him, his ambition is “driven by the desire of the people for a new direction.” The victory signals a major political shift in Gombe Central, where Goje has represented the district since 2011 after completing two terms as governor.

Goje’s aide declined to comment immediately, saying approval was needed before speaking publicly. Ahmed further stated that many people believe “the time has come for Yamaltu-Deba to have a stronger voice at the national level,” as supporters celebrated what they view as the end of Goje’s 15-year hold on the Senate seat.
