Court Orders Arrest of Ex-Power Minister Mamman After 75-Year Jail Sentence

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the immediate arrest of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, following his sentencing to 75 years imprisonment over corruption charges.

The judge convicted Mamman on all 12 counts of money laundering and conspiracy filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over funds linked to the Zungeru and Mambilla hydroelectric power projects. Justice Omotosho ruled that the prison terms would run consecutively.

Although the former minister was absent from court during the judgment, the judge directed that the sentence would begin from the day he is arrested. He also instructed all security agencies, including Interpol, to track and arrest Mamman wherever he is found.

The court further ordered that all funds and properties recovered from the convict be forfeited to the Federal Government. In addition, Mamman was directed to refund the outstanding balance from the ₦22 billion connected to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric power projects.
