MTN Nigeria Credits Subscribers with Airtime Over January Service Disruptions
MTN Nigeria has started compensating customers with airtime following complaints about poor network performance in January 2026.
Several subscribers reported receiving notifications confirming the compensation, with messages such as: “Your account has been credited with ₦341 airtime for quality of service issues in January 2026.” However, the credited amounts appear to differ widely, with some users getting as little as ₦20, others ₦91, and some receiving higher sums.
The development comes after increased pressure from regulators urging telecom operators to address service lapses and provide compensation where necessary. In response, MTN stated that it is complying with the directive while continuing efforts to improve its network infrastructure.
It remains unclear whether all affected customers have been compensated or the exact criteria used to determine the varying airtime payouts.
