Police Inspector Killed by Lightning While Directing Traffic in Borno
Inspector Abdulkadir Garba, popularly known as “Buratai,” has died after being struck by lightning while directing traffic opposite the Borno State Police Command headquarters.
The incident happened on Wednesday, while his senior colleague, ASP Wazani Adamu, reportedly survived the thunder strike. The Borno State Police Command confirmed the development on Friday.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, the officers attempted to seek shelter as strong winds began around 2:19 p.m., but a sudden thunderclap and lightning strike occurred before they could reach safety.
Garba reportedly sustained partial burns from the strike and died at the scene.
The command described the late officer as a dedicated and hardworking policeman who was well known for maintaining traffic order despite harsh weather conditions. Police added that he lost his life in the line of duty during a natural storm incident rather than violence or conflict.
