The Nigeria Police Force has forwarded the case file on the killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State, to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation for prosecution.

Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, disclosed on Sunday that the Police Service Commission has approved the dismissal of ASP Usman Nuhu and three other officers linked to the April 26 incident.

According to the police, investigations revealed that ASP Nuhu shot the victim after he had already been apprehended and was unarmed. Ogidi was reportedly earlier found with a parcel containing a fabricated Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition.

Placid described the officers’ actions as professional misconduct and an abuse of office, stressing that no level of suspicion justifies extra-judicial actions.

The Force confirmed that all four officers are currently in custody and have been dismissed with immediate effect. It also pledged to work closely with the AGF to ensure the case is fully prosecuted.

Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to arrest other suspects connected to the incident, including the parcel driver and two vigilantes.
