Tinubu Appoints Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Foreign Affairs Minister

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

In a statement issued by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu also nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, pending Senate confirmation.

Until his nomination, Enikanolaiye, who hails from Kogi State, served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations. He is described as a seasoned diplomat with over three decades of experience, having held key roles including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.

The President said the appointments are part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy framework, enhance strategic global engagement, and build stronger international partnerships.

Tinubu congratulated the appointees and urged them to advance Nigeria’s national interests, promote economic diplomacy, support regional stability, and protect the welfare of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
