Tinubu Reaffirms Push for State Police to Address Nigeria’s Security Challenges

President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to establishing state police as part of efforts to tackle Nigeria’s worsening security situation.

The president made this known on Tuesday during a closed-door meeting with a delegation from Plateau State, led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang. The meeting followed Tinubu’s recent visit to the state after the Palm Sunday attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos.

Speaking to stakeholders, Tinubu urged them to review and implement existing policy recommendations, including white papers, while addressing any unresolved issues through proper channels.

He emphasized that the creation of state police would help improve law enforcement and address some of the country’s persistent security problems. According to him, achieving peace is essential to preventing further loss of lives and enabling national development.

“Through the legislators that are here, we are going to work together to establish state police. I believe that when we have state police, enforcement of law and order will take care of some of these problems,” Tinubu said.

He added that lasting peace is critical to ending the cycle of violence that leaves families grieving and communities destabilized, stressing that meaningful development cannot occur without security.
