Two Killed, Several Injured in Fresh Attack on Plateau Community

At least two people have been killed and several others injured following a fresh attack on Kyeng village in Bachi District of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The incident reportedly happened on Sunday night when suspected armed bandits invaded the community and opened fire for several hours.

The National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Barrister Solomon Mwatiri, confirmed the attack in a statement released on Monday morning.

Mwatiri condemned the killing of two Berom youths, describing the attack as another disturbing incident coming just days after deadly violence in parts of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area where several people were reportedly killed.

In the statement signed by BYM National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, the group alleged that the attackers stormed the village while residents were asleep and carried out the assault.

According to the association, repeated calls to security agencies during the attack allegedly did not produce immediate intervention, leaving villagers vulnerable to the attackers.

The victims were identified as 22-year-old Peter Dung and 19-year-old Amos Bele Danbwarang, who were reportedly shot dead before the assailants escaped into nearby bushes.

BYM described the incident as “barbaric” and part of the continuing violence affecting communities in Plateau State.

“The killing of these young men is painful and unacceptable,” the association stated. “It reflects the continued attacks on peaceful communities and innocent residents.”

The group called on security agencies to track down those responsible, arrest them, and ensure justice is served. It also urged governments at all levels to take stronger action against the persistent insecurity and killings in Plateau communities.
