10 Abducted NECO Candidates, Teachers Rescued After Borno School Attack

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have rescued 10 National Examinations Council (NECO) candidates and teachers who were abducted during an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents on a secondary school in Borno State.

According to security sources, the attack occurred at about 9:00 a.m. on Monday at Technical Secondary School, Lassa Community, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area, while students were sitting for their NECO examinations.

The suspected insurgents reportedly stormed the school, abducting several examination candidates and teachers before fleeing into the surrounding bush.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that troops of Operation Hadin Kai subsequently launched a rescue operation, resulting in the safe recovery of 10 of the kidnapped victims.

Security sources added that efforts are continuing to locate and rescue any remaining abductees, while military operations have been intensified across the area to track down the attackers and improve security.
