Tragedy in Borno: Four Soldiers, One Civilian Killed in Boko Haram Attack
A recent assault by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on the Mussa community within Borno State’s Askira/Uba Local Government Area has resulted in the tragic deaths of four military personnel and one local resident.
The attack, which took place around midday on Wednesday, involved a heavy exchange of gunfire lasting approximately half an hour, leading to widespread fear and the displacement of many community members.
The Chairman of the Askira/Uba LGA, Mada Saidu, verified the details of the incident, confirming that the civilian victim was a woman. He reported that the assault occurred in the Mussa ward during the afternoon hours, claiming the lives of the female resident and the four servicemen who were stationed in the area to provide security.
Military insiders revealed that the fallen soldiers were members of the 115 Task Force Battalion. These troops were actively engaged in protecting the town from an infiltration attempt by the insurgents.
Despite the intense pressure, the soldiers maintained their positions to block the terrorists from entering the community, though four of them ultimately lost their lives in the line of duty.
Local residents credited the military’s courageous stand with preventing the attackers from gaining access to the main residential areas, which likely averted much higher casualties and further property destruction.
This incident is the most recent in a worrying trend of violent escalations targeting both security forces and civilians across Borno State in recent weeks.
