Manchester City Beat Brentford 3-0 to Keep Premier League Title Race Alive

Manchester City kept their slim Premier League title hopes alive with a convincing 3-0 victory over Brentford at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s side found it difficult to break down Brentford for much of the game before Jeremy Doku produced another brilliant moment to open the scoring.

Erling Haaland later added City’s second goal — his 26th in the league this season — while Omar Marmoush sealed the win in stoppage time.

The victory moved City within two points of league leaders Arsenal, increasing the pressure on Mikel Arteta’s side ahead of their clash with West Ham on Sunday.

City had seen their title chances suffer after a 3-3 draw against Everton earlier in the week, leaving Arsenal in control of the race. However, Guardiola’s men responded well to keep the battle alive.

Doku looked dangerous from the opening stages and forced an early save from Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

City also survived a scare after goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma nearly gifted Brentford a goal following a poor attempt to deal with a long throw into the box.

Haaland missed a couple of good chances in the first half, while Nathan Aké also failed to convert a rebound after Kelleher denied the Norwegian striker from close range.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 60th minute when Doku collected the rebound from his blocked shot and curled a superb effort into the top corner from the edge of the area.

City continued to push forward, and Haaland doubled the lead in the 75th minute with a clever back-heel finish after his first attempt had been blocked.

Marmoush completed the scoring late on with a calm finish inside the penalty area to strengthen City’s goal difference.

Guardiola’s team will next face Crystal Palace before turning attention to the FA Cup final against Chelsea on May 16.
