Falconets Qualify for 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup
Nigeria’s Falconets have secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to Malawi in the second leg of their final qualifying fixture played in Lilongwe on Saturday.
The Nigerian side progressed with a 3-2 aggregate victory after their first-leg advantage proved enough to seal qualification.
Malawi started strongly, taking the lead in the ninth minute through midfielder Faith Chimzimu.
The Falconets, coached by Moses Aduku, managed to withstand sustained pressure from the hosts for the rest of the first half.
Chimzimu, who recently celebrated UEFA Europa League success with Swedish club BK Häcken, scored again four minutes before the hour mark to give Malawi a two-goal lead on the day.
Nigeria responded in the 62nd minute when Oscar Precious pulled one back to reduce the deficit and keep the Falconets ahead on aggregate.
The Falconets held on until the final whistle, maintaining their impressive record of qualifying for every edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup since the competition began.
The 2026 tournament is scheduled to take place in Poland in September.
