Fulani Man Denied Bus Ride in Lagos Over Ethnic Bias, Sparks Outrage

A man identified as Bashir Dalhatu Liman has recounted how he was reportedly prevented from boarding a commercial bus to Calabar in Lagos after other passengers allegedly refused to travel with him because of his Fulani background.

In a TikTok video that has since gone viral, Liman explained that he spent the night at a GUO transport terminal hoping to secure a trip to Calabar. After being informed that the company did not operate that route, he was directed to GIGM, where he arrived early and purchased a ticket.

However, he claimed that when it was time to board, fellow passengers objected to his presence, insisting they would not travel with him due to his ethnicity. According to Liman, the transport company refunded his money and offered an apology, but the experience left him deeply unsettled.

He described the incident as a reflection of the challenges faced by Fulani individuals in the country, alleging that people often make assumptions and label them unfairly.

The story has triggered widespread reactions online, reigniting debates around ethnic profiling and discrimination in Nigeria, with many urging greater tolerance and responsibility among transport operators and the public.
