MURIC Accuses FG of Bias Over Relief Funds, Demands Equal Treatment

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has accused the Federal Government of sidelining Muslims, citing recent relief packages and infrastructure projects as evidence of unequal treatment.

In a statement, the group’s Executive Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, questioned why a reported ₦2 billion relief package for victims of violence in Plateau State was not matched with similar support for affected communities in states such as Borno, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Kwara.

He also raised concerns over a reported ₦1.2 billion Eid al-Kabir allocation for all 19 Northern states, contrasting it with what he described as a higher amount directed to a single state.

MURIC further linked the issue to the ongoing construction of an ecumenical chapel and pilgrimage centre at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, arguing that similar consideration should be given to Muslim infrastructure.

The group called for fairness and equal treatment, urging the government to clarify its actions and address concerns of imbalance.

The claims have added to ongoing public debate around equity, resource allocation, and religious sensitivity in Nigeria.
