Army Sanctions Soldier Over Viral Food Claims, Insists Troops Are Well Fed

The Nigerian Army has disciplined a soldier serving under Operation Hadin Kai for sharing images online that allegedly showed poor feeding conditions among troops in the North-East.

In a statement, theatre spokesperson Lt. Col. Sanni Uba said an internal investigation found that the viral image did not accurately represent the full rations issued to personnel. He confirmed that sanctions were applied in line with the Armed Forces Act to uphold discipline and protect the integrity of the military.

While acknowledging logistical and environmental challenges in the theatre of operations, the Army maintained that troops receive meals that meet approved standards. It added that feeding arrangements are monitored by designated Food Committees and are often improved during special periods such as Sallah and Easter.

The Army also cautioned personnel against using social media to air grievances, urging them to follow established internal channels instead. It warned that the spread of misleading information could undermine military operations and national security.
