Jos Women Protest, Destroy Alcohol Over Rising Domestic Abuse

Women in the Farin Lamba area of southern Jos took to the streets in protest, smashing bottles of alcohol and suspected illicit substances to highlight the growing impact of substance abuse on their families.

According to the protesters, many husbands and young men in the community have become addicted to alcohol and drugs, leading to domestic violence, neglect, and failure to provide for their households. They said the situation has left women and children suffering, with some families struggling to feed.

Out of frustration, the women destroyed kegs, bottles, and drug packs as a public show of anger and a call for change.

Residents also confirmed that substance abuse has been on the rise in the area, contributing to broken homes and increasing hardship, with women and children bearing most of the consequences.
