TikTok Activist Condemns DSS Arrest of Bello Bodejo

Human rights journalist and peace ambassador A_rabon_kanawa has criticized the Department of State Services (DSS) over the arrest of Taraba Central Senate aspirant and Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore president, Dr. Bello Bodejo, demanding an immediate explanation from the agency.

In a TikTok video reacting to the incident, the activist questioned the reason behind Bodejo’s detention after he reportedly visited Taraba State for political activities linked to his Senate ambition.

“We just received information that the DSS arrested Dr. Bello Bodejo while he was campaigning and meeting people in Taraba Central ahead of his Senate ambition,” he said. “We do not know what offence this man committed to deserve another arrest.”

A_rabon_kanawa recalled that Bodejo had previously been arrested and detained before later regaining freedom after court proceedings. According to him, the latest arrest raises concerns about fairness and democratic rights.

“He is a Nigerian citizen and has every constitutional right to contest for office and move freely to meet supporters,” he stated. “He has not destroyed property or harmed anybody. Is it now a crime to seek elective office or declare political intentions?”

The activist also rejected attempts to associate Bodejo with terrorism because of ethnicity, arguing that criminality exists across different groups in Nigeria.

“If people want to talk about terrorism, every ethnic group has criminals among them,” he said. “Not every security issue in the country should be linked to one tribe.”

Describing the arrest as “an attack on justice and democracy,” A_rabon_kanawa called on the DSS leadership at both national and state levels to publicly explain the reason for Bodejo’s detention. He insisted Nigerians have the constitutional right to question government agencies and demand accountability.

Bodejo, an APC senatorial aspirant, was reportedly arrested Thursday night in Jalingo after addressing supporters. His aide, Umar, said no official reason had been given for the detention.
