Why We Want Jonathan to Contest 2027 Election – Ohikire

Supporters of former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan have explained the reason behind their march to his office in Abuja, urging him to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on behalf of the Coalition for Jonathan 2027, the group’s National President, Tom Ohikere, said members were driven by growing concerns about Nigeria’s current condition and appealed to Jonathan to “save Nigeria from impending collapse.”

Ohikere recalled that the coalition had earlier visited Jonathan on April 8, 2026, to encourage him to join the presidential race. However, the group said it was yet to receive a clear response and noted that the former president had not obtained a nomination form from any political party.

The coalition urged Jonathan to formally enter the race and promised to mobilise support for him nationwide if he decides to contest.

According to the group, the crowd that gathered during the march represented supporters from different ethnic, religious, and social backgrounds across the country.

Responding to the calls, Jonathan reportedly said presidential elections are not a “computer game,” but added that he had heard their appeal and would consult widely before making any decision. He also stressed the importance of preparing younger generations for the future of the country.
