Sadness has spread across Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, MAAUN, following the death of Sadiya Isma’il Uba, a newly graduated Medical Laboratory Science student, in a car accident while travelling for Hajj.

Sadiya, who graduated last month with a degree in Medical Microbiology, was reportedly on her way to Damaturu en route to Muhammadu Buhari Airport in Maiduguri for her flight to Saudi Arabia when the fatal accident happened on Friday. According to family sources quoted by Rariya, she was expected to perform Hajj next week and had plans to get married in January 2027.

In a statement released on May 9, 2026, the university management said: “We have just received the heartbreaking news that Sadiya Ismail Uba, one of our Medical Laboratory Science students who graduated this year, has passed away following a motor accident.”

MAAUN President, Prof. Mohammad Israr, described her as “a humble and highly disciplined student” and said her death was “a painful loss for her family, classmates, lecturers, and the entire MAAUN Community.” He prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and strength for her family during the difficult time.

The university also extended condolences to her parents, relatives, and friends. Sadiya, who was from Yobe State, has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
