The abductors of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, and his wife have released a video showing the couple in captivity.

The pair were reportedly kidnapped along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, near Zakin Baure village.

In the approximately four-minute video circulated online, the retired general’s wife relayed the demands of the kidnappers. According to her, the group is seeking the release of three individuals identified as Sani, Aminu, and Nasiru, as well as the return of livestock they claim was confiscated.

She stated that two of the individuals were arrested in Jikamshi, while the third was arrested in Kano.

The woman also appealed to the Katsina State Government and leaders of five local government areas to help facilitate compliance with the demands in order to secure their freedom.

Speaking briefly in the video, Major General Abubakar called for efforts to promote peace, noting that the abductors had indicated a willingness to engage in dialogue and coexist peacefully.

According to reports, a notorious bandit leader known as Kachallah Muhammad, who is active in parts of Katsina State, has reportedly made contact with the retired general’s family.

As of the time of reporting, neither the Katsina State Government nor security agencies had issued an official response to the video.
